Teen’s parents don’t want probe to continue: Police

Cops have so far only spoken on the phone with parents of the boy who hosted the party

Four days after a 16-year-old girl fell to death from her residence on the twenty-third floor of Imperial Towers, Tardeo, police have so far only spoken on the phone with the parents of the boy who hosted a party at their residence on Pedder Road.

The boy, who was a friend of the deceased minor, is an alumnus of the Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort.

According to police, the boy’s parents were at home during the party.

Sanjay Surve, senior police inspector, Tardeo Police said, “Late on Monday evening, we spoke to the parents of the boy who hosted the party at their residence on Friday night. We do not feel the need to summon the boy’s parents to the police station. As per the law, we can record the statement of his parents, if it was a case of suspected foul play and if the minor girl’s parents approach us to register a complaint. As per the investigations, no fight took place at the party nor had anything untoward happened at the party.”

Police also said they would not be interrogating the teenagers who had attended the party, all of whom were alumnae of the Cathedral and John Connon School.

“We are allowed to question the minors only if a police complaint is filed. In cases of Accidental Death Record (ADR), we are not allowed to interrogate any minor. The girl's parents do not want us to investigate the matter further," added Surve.

The boy, at whose residence the party was hosted, had flown to Mumbai on a semester break from his studies in the United States and will be returning within a fortnight.

Although police are still piecing together the sequence of events which led to the minor's death, they have not yet obtained her mobile phone from her parents.

Furthermore, they will not be questioning the principals of the Cathedral and John Connon school and the Hill Spring International School, which the girl last attended.

On October 26, the girl left home at 7.30 pm, to attend a party. When she returned home close to midnight, her mother and younger brother were believed to be asleep. She was let in by the maid. Shortly after her return, the girl fell from the twenty-third floor of her residence.

The maid, who was the last person to see the girl alive, has been working with the girl's family for the past twenty years.

“We are not suspecting any foul play by the maid. There were no previous fights between the family and the maid nor does she have a criminal record," said the officer.
