Kurla ‘Viagra gang’ conned US citizens

Mumbai Crime Branch unit 5 arrested eight persons on Friday for duping American nationals on the pretext of selling Viagra tablets to them. The accused would pose as representa­tives of a US pharmacy and cheat them.The accused were arrested during a raid on Friday morning at the office of Speed Technology in Sarah Business Centre at Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Kurla.

According to the police, the accused would fake an American accent, profess to be representa­tives of a pharmacy, entrap the victims over Voice over Internet Protocol and entice them into purchasing Viagra tablets.

They were using the Go Auto Dial software to make the VoIP calls. After the victims made the payment through debit cards, the accused would not send the consignmen­t and make a killing.The accused -Iqram Nasir Mukaddam (26), Arbaaz alias Ayaan Gafar Shaikh (20), Shahrukh Yunus Ansari (20), Junaid Salim Shaikh (22), Kader Abdullah Sayyed (20), Atif Alslam Shaikh (20), Ahad Abdul Khan (21) and Salman Abdul Khan (23) -- have been arrested.Ashok Khot, senior police inspector, Mumbai crime branch unit 5, said, “During the raid on Friday, we recovered from the accused a laptop, which contains the names and phone numbers of the victims, and 11 mobile phones. We are still ascertaini­ng the exact amount received by the accused through the scam.

”They have been booked and arrested for forgery (Section 419), cheating (Section 420) and common intention (Section 34) of the Indian Penal Code and computer related offences (Sections 66 (b), 66 (c) and 66 (d)) of the Informatio­n Technology Act.
