Style trends for the season

Fashion stylist SHAGUN GANDHI lists five must-have trends for Diwali inspired by the B-town beauties

-

Diwali is just around the corner. Have you finalised what you’re going to wear on the five fab days of Diwali? Not yet? No need to fuss about it. Opt for some stunningly different trends this year and do absolutely ditch the boring, conventional salwar kameez!

Replace palazzos with shararas

Collect all your palazzos and pack them in a trunk because shararas are back and here to stay. Remember those days when Bollywood actresses were seen dancing in fancy glittery shararas? The sharara is an absolute must-have for Diwali for that tash party night. All you need is a bright coloured sharara set and a gorgeous pair of juttis for this festive season.

Star inspiration: The three beauties — Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha dressed in shararas for different occasions look so classy and elegant. Also, accessorising game on point for all three.

Heavy lehenga and crop top

The difference between a crop top and a conventional blouse or choli is their shape and structure. Ditch your matching blouse and experiment with your style by opting for a sexy and stylish crop top. This trend is the safest, most comfortable and highly elegant too. For those who don’t want the hassle of carrying a 10 kg lehenga, this fashion trend is a muchawaited resort. You can wear an embroidered lehenga with a basic white shirt or a printed skirt with an off-shoulder crop top to your office Diwali party. Star inspiration:

Sonam Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor look marvellous different versions of crops tops and lehengas.

Cape it up

We find a lot of trends that are in vogue at the moment, but not everyone can pull it off with confidence. However, a cape is one such trend that can be worn by any body type. Go bold and beautiful this Diwali by accentuating your look with a stylish cape. Team it up with dhoti pants, a smart pair of fitted denims or even a ghagra for an IndoWestern look! Star inspiration: Perfect for a Diwali soiree, Neha Dhupia looks stunning in that pair of pastel coloured dhoti pants. All you need is a good pair of dangling kundan earrings and an elegant box clutch.

Sensual sari

Gone are the days when the sari was worn in just one way. From sari skirt to sari gown, this conventional outfit has acquired many wow twists.

Star inspiration: We loved the Masaba Gupta printed sari-style skirt and off-shoulder crop top worn by the gorgeous Shilpa Shetty. Sarah

Jane Dias wore a beautiful nude lehenga with a magenta silk pallu. At once it looks like a sari, at another it looks like a lehenga! Drape the pallu of your lehenga sari-style and channel the Marathi mulgi look like Sarah! Go be the belle of the

ball!

Ethnic dresses

Who said gowns were only reserved for Hollywood red carpets? Bid goodbye to your sari or salwar suit this festive season and say hola to this Indo-Western trend. The ethnic gown can be worn to formal occasions as well as casual functions. This dress would look great with chunky oxidised silver jewellery and Kolhapuri chappals.

Star inspiration: Dia Mirza looks super comfortable and stylish in that white maxi dress. The maroon cape adds a whole new definition to the look.
