In the beginning, there was the word: Magic

-

As Pritam would practice conscientiously at home and then involve a three-year-old Swarang in his flamboyant acts, little did he realise that he was sparking the prodigious interest of his own ward. “While Swarang watched and imbibed all that peaceful manner,” remembers Pritam.

Doesn’t the ‘Atom Bomb of Magic’, as eminent magician PC Sorcar Junior calls him, ever get tired? “He is very lucky to have a very loving and supportive mother who gave up her career as a Bharat Natyam dancer and teacher just to see him comfortable as he chases after his dreams. She picks him up after school, lets him rest, readies him and travels by train from Virar to Churchgate so that I can join them

Entertain them all

“I love being on the stage and entertaining people, and I want to become the biggest magician possible so I don’t get tired. I finish my evening shows and am ready to go to school again the next morning; I want it all,” Swarang smiles determinedly.

Devika remarks “Around examination’s time, when we reduce his work commitments, he enquires about the next show relentlessly. He is forever curious to learn new magic tricks and keeps pestering his father to teach him something new. We have also notices that engaging with the audience gives him great pleasure.”

Next is what?

With over 150 shows under his belt already, and having received close to 50 awards, Swarang has also broken about seven world records, claims Pritam, with one of the most prestigious being a Guinness Record. He shyly boasts of being on the hotline of many a Bollywood star, thanks to Swarang, after they have seen him perform, for most of their private parties. So, what is next for the standard 2 wizard and student of John XXIII High School, Virar?

Well, by the time you read this, little Swarang would have also performed for our Chief Minister at his Diwali do. Like Pritam believes, this child has raced ahead of his father and has also taken him along.
