Carpenter survives 13 feet fall with 3 feet rod pierced in body

A carpenter fell down from 13 feet height, accidental­ly with three feet rod inserted from his chest that came out from his scalp.

The incident occurred at a constructi­on site in Chembur. He was immediatel­y rushed to Zen Multi Specialty Hospital, Chembur.

Rakesh Jadhav, a 24 year old carpenter from UP was working at a constructi­on site in Chembur. While working, he had sudden fell from the constructi­on site, and as he was rescued a 3 feet iron rod passed from chest entering through armpit, neck through base of skull, brain and came out of his scalp.

In such cases death is imminent, but that to the team of doctors who never gave up hope, but instead without wasting any time, a decision was soon taken to operate him. A case of accident has been registered at the Chembur police Station.

A team of seven doctors headed by Neurosurge­on Dr Batuk Deora, Onco Surgeon Dr Tanveer Masjeed, Chief Anesthetis­t Dr Pramod Kale from Zen Multi specialty Hospital Chembur performed a successful surgery by removing the three feet iron rod from Rakesh Jadhav’s body.

Jadhav had undergone CT scan of brain, neck and chest followed by CT Angio of brain to see major blood vessel injury from where blood comes out. A five-hour operation was performed on him. Doctors at Zen Multi specialty hospital faced multiple challenges right from beginning of the anesthesia till the removal of the 3 feet long metal piece.

“The rod pierced through Jadhav’s chest, neck and entered his brain to exit from the scalp. Pre-operation CT scan and Angiograms were performed to check exact extent of injury to the brain and main blood vessels. Precision was important as even minute mistake would have led to death on table as rod was removed out of brain where it was touching major blood vessels and sinus,” Dr Roy Patankar, Director, Zen Multi Specialty Hospital said.
