PUNE LADY IS SHOT AT DOORSTEP

A woman was shot dead at her home on Wednesday by two unknown persons, in the presence of her husband.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the city. The police have summoned husband Brijesh Bhati for questionin­g.

Ekta, 37, resided with her family at Indramani Society, Anand Park, in Chandan Nagar area. The shooters entered the building where Ekta lived, rang the doorbell of her apartment and shot her dead, according to police. Bhati rushed his wife to the Columbia Asia hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Ekta used to manage a catering business in Vadgaonshe­ri and supply lunch to software companies in the surroundin­g areas. The Bhatis are originally from Noida and had moved to Pune for work.

Meanwhile, a senior inspector with the Pune crime branch, Gajanan Pawar, who is part of the investigat­ing team probing the murder, was shot at inside Pune railway station while attempting to nab the same assailants, who it is believed, had shot dead Ekta.

Police sources said that one of the shooters has been taken in custody.

Pawar received bullet wounds in the abdomen and was rushed to the Ruby Hall clinic where he is said to be in critical condition.

The police are scrutinisi­ng CCTV footage of two suspects arriving on a two-wheeler in Anand Park area, where the deceased used to live with her husband.
