DIRECTOR: Neeraj Pathak RATING:

Neeraj Pathak’s attempts to resurrect the careers of a few forgotten stars hits a roadblock with Bhaiaji Superhit a ridiculous, fancy spoof on Bollywood that is so dry that it can rarely raise a laugh. The title rightfully alludes to a craving for a superhit formula.

The Bhaiaji (Sunny Deol) in the picture sets out to woo his jealous, recalcitrant wife (Preity Zinta) with a film about his love for her and the resultant is so illogical and stupid that you would rather cry than laugh.

Leave your brains behind is the edict framed in an early sequence that has Sunny Deol as the Bhaiaji, toss a brain in the air and smash it with his dhai kilo ka haath. Dare you do otherwise? Well, we can’t help but think when the smashing and crashing becomes so overwhelming that it starts to grate on your nerves. The spoofy, cliché ridden format is an eyesore, because it’s not written or structured with any intelligence.

The over-the-top scale, the lack of probity in the plotting, unwieldy pace and inopportune timing leaves us smothered rather than tickled. The exaggerated exuberance of the actors is also quite irritating. And there’s no respite. Nothing makes sense here. The attempts at spoofing Bollywood is also lacklustre.

The actors, though sincere, look pretty much like their performing a standalone in a melee. Deol in a double role is actually two much of a bad thing especially since he looks so lost and out of sorts. This film is a fiasco that seems so disconnected that its pitiful!
