Customer runs car over bar owner in Mira Road, held

- SURESH GOLANI

A hit-and-run accident in Mira Road that left a 50year-old hotelier severely injured, last week has now turned out to be an attempt to murder plot that was allegedly planned to avenge the insult which followed a tiff over a bill amount.

While one person, identified as Gulam Mohammed Gaurali (26), has been arrested and booked under Section 307 of the IPC, his two accomplices are still at large.

According to the police the incident was reported from the Sai Baba Nagar area of Mira Road at around 11:30 pm on November 14, when an overspeeding car ran over local hotelier Bittu Singh Anand (50), who was critically injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is now said to be stable.

The entire sequence of events was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity. The police initially registered a hitand-run case against the unidentified driver. However, further investigations and the statement given by the victim pointed the finger of suspicion towards three customers who had fought with Bittu Singh at his bar in Mira Road over a bill amount, hours before the accident took place.

The police arrested the accused on Wednesday. “A resident of Kurar, Gulam who is a serial offender was arrested and remanded to police custody till November 26. A manhunt has been launched to nab his accomplices,” said Senior PI Vasant Labdhe.
