Less time to complete SSC portion due to change of syllabus, claim teachers

As per the new syllabus, the lessons and chapters including poems and grammar were added in the language subjects. 22 new chapters have been added in Science and language subjects

Students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination are facing difficulty, as their portion is still not completed. The preliminary examinations will be conducted in January, but the teachers have not been able to complete the portions due to change of syllabus.

The syllabus was changed in this academic year and several new sections were added in different subjects. These sections were added by Balbharti, as directed by the state education department. As per the new syllabus, the lessons and chapters including poems and grammar were added in the language subjects. 22 new chapters have been added in Science and language subjects.

State board schools have just re-opened after the Diwali vacation and schools now have only a month and half to prepare for prelims. Schools and teachers have asked Balbharti to revise the curriculum because it is burdening the students. Rajesh Pandya, a teacher said, "The new portion is adding the pressure on students as well as teachers. We want the Balbharti to look into this matter."

The question paper pattern has already been sent to schools. Sharmi Dixit, a teacher said, "These lessons are new for students and are time consuming. We do not have sufficient time to complete the portion and we also have to make sure that we explain all the concepts clearly and students understand it thoroughly."

Teachers claimed the state has given them additional responsibilities too. A teacher added, "We have to fulfill extra activities like organising school Picnic, Annual day, Science Exhibition and other academic functions. This adds to our work and leaves us with less time to complete the syllabus."
