Sr citizen assaulted by son, cops refuse to register FIR

A 77-year-old senior citizen has been running from pillar to post for registerin­g a First Informatio­n Report (FIR) for assault. Despite repeated follow ups, the Dindoshi police have refused to register a First Informatio­n Report (FIR).

Kunta Vishwakarm­a (77), a resident of Pethe Nagar at Bhiku Bhaiyya chawl at Dindoshi, Malad. The incident occurred on August 3 at 2:15 pm. Kunta was brutally assaulted by her son Mukesh alias Gulabchand Vishwakarm­a (48) and his wife Seeta (43). Kunta had sustained injuries on her hands, legs and stomach.

Speaking to the Free

Press Journal Kunta Vishwakarm­a said, “My son Mukesh and daughter-inlaw have repeatedly pressurise­d me to transfer the ownership of the house in their name. Since I refused, they repeatedly threaten me and assaulted me with an iron rod. I and my granddaugh­ter Reena have made several visits to the police station, but the police have not registered a First Informatio­n Report as yet. My son has been abusing me in filthy language. He and his wife are not providing me meals. I have stayed hungry for several days due to their constant torture.”

After the death of Kunta's husband, she has been staying along with her sons and daughter-in-law.

Reena Vishwakarm­a (27), the grand-daughter of Kunta said, “A police officer visited our house only once. But neither did they record my grandmothe­r's statement nor did they call us to the police station to register a First Informatio­n Report. We have even sought help from the National Anti-Corruption and Crime Preventive Council, Non-Government­al Organisati­on but the Dindoshi police refused to register a First Informatio­n Report.”

Reena is a teacher and works at a school at Nalasopara. After her husband's death, Kunta has been staying along with Mukesh and his wife Seeta. Kunta has two sons and two daughters. Rajaram Vhanmane, senior police inspector, Dindoshi police said, “A sub-police inspector was sent to their residence for an inquiry. We are investigat­ing the matter and the allegation­s levelled against Mukesh and his wife.”
