Shine bright like a diamond

-

Heavy is the air -- the envelope of gases surrounding the earth, folks, the haze refuses to leave the shores of Mumbai, making it a close second in competition with Delhi. People are leaving, especially couples, who would prefer breathing fresher air at least on their wedding day or night.

Speaking of couples, the marriage of the year will soon take place. My birdies coo, how many big shots are being flown in, which of course, includes Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton and Beyonce, the singing gal, who’s being paid a few millions to perform. KJo and Manish Malhotra are rolling on the right side of quite a few zeroes, being tasked with designing everything -from A (for Ambanis) to T for tissue. There is a theme for every function and the young bride-to-be, Isha, has tied up with only top couture stores, for the sake of the guests, especially the phirangis, to help them select their desi outfits. However, there will be ‘redressal’, just like at the engagement, where Dolce & Gabbana had set up a stall for guests to pick up gifts of their choice. This time, however, the sky will be the limit, says the birdie.

For desis, the cuisine is shudh shakahari, while a separate enclosure will be made for the creme-de-la-creme phirangs to feast on, wait my dearies, some delicious world class meats and seafood. Such injustice, I tell you, the bechara clandestine meat-eating Jains and Marus will just rot with envy.

The moneyed sure are star-struck, going by the guest list. And from the whispers, I would say, wait for the new gajra that will be worn by the mother of the bride, Nita Ambani. She takes dressing up in diamonds to a whole new level, for failing to think of which, many designers must be kicking themselves. For the engagement, she had worn dazzlers – huge diamonds -- in the form of a gajra. This time, at every function, look out for diamonds and precious stones set in diamonds, environment-friendly and the bigger the better, dahlings. Also, Mickey Contractor is the genius behind the Nita look and who, by the way, has been retained by her. While the entire city of Udaipur has been rounded up for the wedding period, a request was made that the airport be shut during that period, thus taking privatisation to newer altitudes.

Drool babes, but do not envy, says the birdie, the cost of this wedding is only three-four days’ earnings of the father of the bride.

The trading fraternity, however, is tied up in knots. They are complaining of slump in the markets, both stock and gold. Now that the murmurs are growing louder, the once-favourite 56inch bosom pal will need some help from the universe. Speaking of which, all the Gujarati maharajs from across the country will be visiting Gujarat for a week, praying for the universe to conspire for the ruling party to retain power in the three states. With so much mixing of religion and politics, leaders have forgotten their respect for human life.
