Traffic woes in Sion as trailer rams into railway head gauge

A trailer-truck rammed into a railway head gauge near Sion hospital early on Tuesday morning, resulting heavy traffic jam for more than an hour. The accident occurred on Sion flyover, where the driver and cleaner of the trailer-truck sustained injuries. The police have registered a case of rash driving and booked the driver.

According to police sources, the accident took place on south-bound road of the Sion flyover, at 6.30 am on Tuesday. Police said, the trailer-truck, with register number HR-55-M-2654, was on its way to drop goods in South Mumbai. The trailer-truck was speeding on the flyover and the driver did not see the railway head gauge and rammed into it, following which it collided with the beam. The collision was intense damaging the front and top portion of the trailer-truck.

Locals who witnessed the entire accident, alerted Sion police immediatel­y, who rushed to the spot. The driver of the trailer truck, Shaqir Hussain (30) and the cleaner Haajim Khan (27), sustained head and leg injuries in the accident.

Lalita Gaikwad, the senior police inspector of Sion police station said, “The driver has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash driving in a public way (section 279) and causing grievous hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others (section 338).” The police have also seized the trailer-truck and are awaiting Hussain’s recovery to make the arrest.

The accident caused a delay of over an hour on the south-bound road of Sion flyover on Tuesday. The trailer-truck was moved two hours after the accident.
