- STAFF REPORTER

The traffic movement near the Ambani residence was hit on Wednesday evening on the occasion of wedding ceremony of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal. The roads like Peddar Road and Altamount Road, which leads to Kemps Corner in Tardeo was highly congested with heavy VVIP movement in the area.

According to police sources, the residents of Tardeo were also issued a request letter by the Tardeo traffic division to refrain from parking on the Altamount Road. Sangram Pache, senior police inspector of Tardeo traffic division said, “Earlier this week, the Tardeo traffic division had issued request letters to all the residents to avoid parking their vehicles on northbound and southbound roads of Altamount Road. This letter was issued in public interest in order to ensure there is no congestion on the road.”

The letter stated, residents to not park vehicles from 7 am on Wednesday till 9 am on Thursday. However, not all residents complied with the request and some four wheelers were seen parked on the Altamount Road, which were towed away. Photographs showed the entire Peddar road was jammed with bumper to bumper traffic. Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “The vehicular movement on Bhulabhai Desai Road, Altamount Road and Peddar Road was like any usual working day traffic on Wednesday morning and afternoon. However, the Wednesday evening vehicular movement was comparatively congested considering the VVIP movement.”

A senior traffic official said there was a 10 per cent rise in the traffic congestion in South Mumbai. Similar traffic woes were seen on Peddar Road on Tuesday as well. Personnel from Mumbai police, traffic police along with surveillance from CCTV cameras installed across the city played a major role to control the traffic.
