Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday called for inculcating Mahatma Gandhi's ideals among the youth to protect them from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party usurping his ideals.

"PM Modi and his entire team never believed in Mahatma Gandhi, so much so that the RSS and the BJP never acknowledged top freedom struggle leaders like Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and Sardar Patel, but they are misusing these Congress leaders' name to mislead the people," Gehlot said in a tweet.

He said they have nothing to do with Gandhi or Sardar Patel but using their names for the vote politics. "We will have to expose them that it were Sardar Patel in whose name Modi swears repeatedly who had banned the RSS after Gandhi's assassination," he tweeted.

In another tweet, he said: "Democracy is in peril in the country. Atmosphere of violence and fear prevails. No group is happy with the (Modi) government. Businesses are collapsing. Instead of new employment, the youth are losing jobs. The state of economy is in such a sorry state that the coming days in the country will be very difficult."

Gehlot said it is in this situation that peace and harmony can be established in the country by pursuing the Congress programmes inherited from principles and policies of Mahatma Gandhi. "Our is a nation of unity in diversity and the nation can be saved only by the Congress by following Mahatma Gandhi's ideologies," he added.

He was tweeting after holding a meeting of the Rajasthan Congress in Jaipur on Thursday to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
