Father-son held for pretending to be docs

City crime branch have arrested a father-son duo for practising as doctors without mandatory registrati­on. The duo promised to cure diseases like psoriasis, paralysis and cancer. The duo have been identified as Hotibhai Dharamsing­h Amroth, 64, and his son Ramesh Amroth, 34. The said doctors were arrested on the same charges before as well.

Crime branch unit 12 received informatio­n about the two bogus doctors practising in Gorai in Borivali, without mandatory registrati­on. According to the police officials, the duo claimed to be BAMS doctors and assured patients that they would treat diseases like psoriasis, paralysis and cancer.

Crime branch officers along with BMC’s medical officer raided their dispensary in Gorai on Friday. During the raid, the officers found that the father-son duo was giving medicines, injections to patients without being qualified to do so.

After the preliminar­y inquiry, both were arrested for cheating by personatio­n (419), cheating (420) and under the sections of Maharashtr­a Medical Council Act. The crime branch seized medicines, injections and medical equipment while the father-son duo were handed over to MHB police station.

According to the crime branch officials, the duo was booked previously as well for treating patients pretending to be doctors. After getting the bail, they started their business of cheating again.
