BIS celebrates World Standards Day 2019

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised a national level seminar on “Video Standards Create a Global Stage” in New Delhi to celebrate the occasion of 50th World Standards Day 2019. Each year, Internatio­nal Organizati­on for Standardiz­ation (ISO) decides a theme for the World Standards Day based on the current aspects of standardiz­ation. The theme of WSD 2019 was “Video Standards Create a Global Stage”. The event was inaugurate­d by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distributi­on, Ram Vilas Paswan. The minister highlighte­d the importance of standards in facilitati­ng technologi­cal growth and advancemen­t of industries. He said, India is keen on adopting Digital technologi­es to promote government initiative­s like Digital India, to transform India into a digitally empowered economy. He informed the gathering about several initiative­s taken by BIS in standardiz­ation activities of emerging technologi­es through various technical committees that have been created for Artificial Intelligen­ce, IoT, Block chain, Smart Cities and Smart Manufactur­ing. Rohit Kumar Parmar, DG, BIS in his inaugural address said that the advancemen­ts in electronic­s and informatio­n technology in the second half of 20th century boosted video production and technologi­cal developmen­ts in the last couple of decades has made producing and storing videos more portable.
