St Mary's ICSE emerge champions

St. Mary’s ICSE School, Mazagaon cashed in on the two opportunit­ies that came their way to strike two goals, one in each half, and snatch a 20 win over Cathedral & John Connon, Fort in a well contested MSSA Cup boys’ under-12 final of the inter-schools football tournament, played at the Schools’ sports ground, Azad Maidan on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s grabbed the lead in the seventh minute when Aman Khan’s took a shot from right and the ball struck the post and deflected into the goal.

Cathedral fought on gamely and scored the equaliser, but the goal was disallowed when the referee ruled that Ramit Shorewala was offside, even after he scored from the rebound from St. Mary’s goalkeeper Yuvan Kotecha who saved Rayess Surti’s free kick towards the end of the first half.

In the second half, St. Mary’s increased the lead when Mahashwin Kumar fscored with a powerful long shot for the second goal and complete the triumph.

Meanwhile, Champion School, Cooperage Road prevailed over Cathedral & John Connon 3-2 in a boys under-12 semifinals.

Strikers Ishan Lehry, Mufaddal Eran and Zane Mehta sscored one goal each to seal Champion School's win. Cathedral & John Connon scored through Veer Mehta and Mikhail Marshal.

In the second semi-final, Bombay Scottish, Mahim defeated St. Stanislaus, Bandra 3-2 in the second semifinal. Ethan Taites scored two goals for Bombay Scottish and Arman Agarwal got one for the winners, while St. Stanislaus scored both goals through Sharv Kamtekar.
