Woman throws newborn from Kandivli high-rise

In a shocking incident, a mother flung her one-day-old baby from the 17th floor of a 21-storied Slum Rehabilita­tion Authority (SRA) building in Kandivli on Thursday afternoon. The body of the newborn was found in a duct. Police said, primarily an Accidental Death Report (ADR) had been registered and the body sent to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital for post mortem.

A probe has revealed that the woman threw her newborn following a heated argument with her husband. At the time of going to press, the registrati­on of a first-informatio­n report was underway.

Police said, the couple, who are already have a girl and a boy, lived on the 17th floor of Jai Bharat building, near Laljipada in Kandivli (W).

During investigat­ion, police found that the woman had given birth and when asked about the baby, she broke down and confessed. Police are still questionin­g the couple and are yet to make any arrests as the woman is recovering after having just given birth.
