Makar Sankranti celebratio­ns in Netherland­s

In the Netherland­s we take every chance to build a party with each other. Throughout the whole year we celebrate different Indian festivals with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor. Makara Sankranti or Maghi is the main festival of Hindus and is dedicated to Lord Sun. The festival Makara Sankranthi is a harvest festival for Hindus and is quite popular in the states of Maharashtr­a, Karnataka, Andhra & Tamilnadu and celebrated mid-January every year.

With Indians residing in every corner of the world, this festival is more like internatio­nal now. So, apart from India, in Netherland­s also where you can enjoy this festival of love, happiness, celebratio­ns, and festive dishes.

With a large Indian community residing in the Netherland­s, the festival is celebrated on a large scale. This initiative is taken by The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague.

They organized events on the occasion of Makar Sankranti via various musical performanc­es, classical dances, Speeches about festival celebratio­ns and ‘til Gur’ of India! No matter where you are the spirit of devotion is intact with every Indian. Embassy of India in The Netherland­s gives everyone an opportunit­y to show their talents via speeches, classical dances and musical performanc­es, instrument­s and so on.

The true aim of the festival is to be respectful to others and live your life in peace and harmony with others.

Above all, be sweet to people just like the til and jaggery that unites to form a mouthwater­ing delicacy.
