SUCCESS DOESN’T MEAN YOU CAN CHARGE MORE MONEY: VICKY

- —Sonali Pitale Joshi

Just because you are successful, you cannot charge more money, says Kaushal

National Award winner Vicky Kaushal is back on the screen, but this time with a horror film, Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship. Speaking about the movie, Vicky confesses he doesn’t believe in ghosts or spirits and is not a fan of horror films. “Very rarely I watch horror films, once in a year I feel that I can watch it because I get scared. However I have seen films like The Conjuring, Paranormal Activity and Annabelle. I prefer watching it with set of friends and preferably who get scared more than me. In Hindi I really got scared after watching Raat. I was in school then, but still remember Revathi’s eyes. And in Bhoot..., when the watchmen gets killed, that really spooked me.”

Has he had any paranormal experiences? “I have never had any scary experience to believe that ghosts exists. But when someone tells me their experience I don’t object to that. I get scared and trust that person. I sometimes get sleep paralysis, I did not know the scientific reason of it untill I read about it. I realised that when are sleeping your brain wakes up, but your body doesn’t. So you get a feeling that someone is sitting on you because you cannot move your body. Till the time I did not know about it I used to think there is some spirit who is sitting on me. It lasts only for 10-15 seconds but it is a scary thing. I don’t know if I hallucinated or it actually happened but once I thought I had seen a shadow passing. So other than that I have had no such experiences.”

The actor says he is not sure about being part of the second film in the franchise. “Part two will happen only if the part one works. Moreover, if people like my work they will take me in part two. If they do not get a positive feedback they can always replace me.”

Was it a conscious decision for Vicky to do this film after Uri...? “Yes, but timing of the film was different. Actually, Bhoot... was offered to me after

Raazi, so it was before Sanju and Uri.... The script fascinated me. It is something like Stanley Kubrick’s Shinning. I don’t believe in planning my career, as an artiste I feel I won’t be able to do justice to it if get into planning. Bring part of good films and working with good directors is important for me. People want to see good stories, if you show them five back to back romantic films they will get bored. But if the story is good they will watch it. For me it is important that I do different kind of work.”

There were of Vicky having increased his fees after Uri.... Sharing his point of view on this, the actor says, “I have to run my kitchen. It isn’t like I have hiked my fees. What happens is you finish few films in 20 days and for some you have to give 10 months plus spend time in preparations. So it is only logical that you get more money for such films. It is not like you get a fixed pay cheque every month. Just because you are successful, you cannot charge more money, there are other logical reasons as to why you charge more. Sometimes it goes up and sometimes down too. But, it is only when you get more that people talk about it.”

Post Bhoot..., Vicky has an array of films in his kitty. He has Udham Singh, Takht, Sham Manek

Shaw and Ashwathama. Speaking about the his work calendar, he says, “My calendar is full till 2022 and I cannot take more films than that. I always wanted to be a part of historical drama.

Takht is as big as it gets. It has a great ensemble cast. I have almost finished shooting for Udham

Singh. Ashwathama is a superhero-mythological film for which I will have to work hard on my physique.”
