Civic body alleged of ‘aiding’ constructions

Opposition leader Ravi Raja has alleged that there are many illegal encroachments in D ward where BMC commissioner Parveen Pardeshi resides in Malabar Hill. Despite bringing it to his notice, the BMC chief failed to clamp down on the illegal structures and officials are also backing this.

Raja wrote a letter to the BMC chief about the illegal constructions and officials working hand in glove with the encroachers. Now, Raja has decided to raise the issue against the administration in the general body meeting.

Local Congress leader, Sunil Narsale complained about the illegal construction being carried at 10 various spots in the D ward but no action was taken. Thus Raja wrote a letter to Pardeshi complaining about the illegal constructions since no action was taken.

“Despite bringing to the notice of the commissioner, illegal construction is going on in the area where he resides. Then what will be the situation in other areas of Mumbai can be gauged from this. This shows how illegal encroaching is being promoted by few BMC officials and now I will raise this issue in the general body meeting,” said Raja.

When Free Press Journal spoke to BMC chief about this issue he said, “I have received a letter stating the illegal constructions in D ward. I have already ordered the assistant commissioner to take action if found to be illegal. Illegal structures will be demolished and I will again check with the assistant commissioner of the ward.”
