Quarantined people under corporators’ lens

- STAFF REPORTER /

The corporators are having a close watch on the people who were asked to be in home quarantine. Soon after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demarcated a few zones in all wards in which residents were tested positive for the coronavirus containment , the corporators have been getting calls from the residents complaining the quarantined people refusing to follow the orders. Therefore, the BMC has decided, if such people are out in public despite being asked to be in quarantine, the corporator have to identify another place for them.

Corporators said, people, mainly slum dwellers, are not following the quarantine directives due to various reasons. But administration has made it very clear that if they are not following the quarantine orders then they will be punished under Section 188 of IPC and will be shifted to the nearby hotels or lodges.

"Family of one suspect, who is awaiting the test report, is sent in quarantine. It also came to know that he was in contact with 25-30 people. BMC is now tracing them. People are scared with the increased number of positive cases, and hence they don't want it to spread further. People were asked to inform us whenever they find someone outside who is advised to be in quarantine. We are also trying to make them understand to stay in their homes and help the administration to control the disease. In slums, there are small houses and they have to share the public toilets. So BMC has decided to shift them to lodges,” said Bindu Trivedi, corporator from Ghatkopar.
