Many businesses have taken a hit during the Coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent lockdown. But it is not all that bad for companies in the hand hygiene business especially the hand wash and sanitisers business. In the case of Lifebuoy’s handwash category, it has witnessed three times rise in production.

Samir Singh, Global EVP, Skin Cleansing at Unilever informed The Free Press Journal, “Clearly, demand for soaps and hand sanitisers have gone up in the recent weeks and months.”

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus, the company has been working hard to increase the production of Lifebuoy products. Singh revealed, “For example, global production of Lifebuoy hand wash has increased from 10 million units per month in 2019 to around 30 million units now. That is an increase of over three times and is the equivalent of 684 bottles of hand wash per minute.”

To keep up with the demand of soaps, hand wash and other skin cleaning products, the brand shifted the focus of their production to these areas. The company started new factories to ensure that the products are made available to those who need them, added Singh.

The demand for Lifebuoy products has increased among the retail as well as the corporate segment. While the supplies are smooth among the retail channels, Unilever has been able to increase the availability and supplies to their corporate partners as well, Singh added.

While Unilever’s personal grooming category has taken a beating, Singh affirmed the overall demand for the products that can help keep people safe and reduce the spread of germs, including soap and hand sanitisers have continued to rise.

Other than an increase in demand, there is one more special reason for brand Lifebuoy to celebrate. Lifebuoy‘s liquid hand wash and alcohol-based hand sanitiser become the first soap brand to be over 99.9 per cent effective against Coronavirus after a test was conducted by internationally-accredited Microbac Lab.
