32 cops from Sahar police station test +ve

-

A total of 32 policemen attached to Sahar police station have been tested positive for Coronavirus, said an official.

Sahar police station, being the closest to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, is the most vulnerable police station after JJ Marg police station, where 27 policemen were tested positive for Covid-19 and 40 others were in home quarantine. Meanwhile, all other policemen of the Sahar police station were lodged in nearby hotels, who continue to do their duty for the Mumbai Police department. A senior official said that to ensure personnel safety, police have tied up with around 22 hotels between Jogeshwari to Bandra, where personnel can stay during the night.

"Police cannot avoid patrolling inside the containment areas, which largely houses those infected with Covid-19, which could be one of the sources where they could contract Coronavirus. By lodging them in hotels and keeping them away from home, the force intends to keep them safe," the official added.

On Wednesday, BJP MLA from Vile Parle, Parag Alavani wrote a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner, demanding that the entire staff of Sahar police station be tested for Coronavirus. "32 police officials from the same police station testing positive is a cause of concern. Hence I demand that the entire staff of the police station be tested for the virus," Alavani said. –Staff Reporter
