on Tuesday entertaine­d a Jharkhand govt’s challenge to the Modi govt's decision to allow commercial mining of the coal blocks and issued a notice to the Centre, returnable in four weeks. The Jharkhand government has said that the Centre didn't take it into confidence despite the state having a large number of coal mines.

Locker Room: HC ultimatum to Centre: The Delhi HC granted last opportunit­y to the Centre for replying to a plea seeking directions to it to ensure that social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram remove groups such as 'Bois Locker Room', "for the safety and security of children". It directed that replies be filed by the ministries of home affairs, IT and finance within four weeks.

Report sought on help to lactating women: The SC sought a report from the Centre on a plea of an NGO seeking status of a 2013 statutory scheme which provided for distributi­on of maternity benefits of Rs 6,000 to all pregnant women and lactating mothers in the country. The petition had been filed by the Peoples Union For Civil Liberties.
