SC nod to raze T’gana secretaria­t in Hyderabad

The SC that is sitting over petitions to stop developmen­t of the central vista demolishin­g some of the heritage buildings around the Parliament House on Friday gave a nod to demolish the Telangana government’s secretaria­t building in Hyderabad as it noted the State High Court has already given its okay for the constructi­on of a new secretaria­t on June 29 by demolishin­g the existing building.

Declining the plea to stop demolition of the building, Justice Ashok Bhushan, heading a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, also comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M.R. Shah said, “The High Court has already rejected your prayers and already decided this issue on merits. We are not entertaini­ng this issue.” Though the HC had given its nod for the demolition of existing structure to pave way for the constructi­on of a new secretaria­t building, it (the HC) had stayed the demolition on July 10.

Taking serious note of non-implementa­tion of its order reinstatin­g Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commission­er, the Andhra Pradesh HC asked him to meet the Governor. The court gave the direction on a contempt of court plea by Ramesh Kumar who was reinstated as SEC by the HC on May 29. Observing the Governor has the power to appoint the SEC as per its order, the court asked Ramesh Kumar to meet him and submit a memorandum.

SC extends tenure of TDSAT chairperso­n

The Supreme Court Friday extended by three months the tenure of the chairperso­n and members of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and

Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) and expressed displeasur­e over the delay in appointmen­ts in tribunals in the country. "This is the position in almost all the tribunals in the country. You see NGT (National Green Tribunal), you do not have requisite expert members and judicial members there. This is a problem," a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan observed. Chandima alleged her husband's killing was a case of preplanned murder and prayed for an probe by the CBI.
