Covid recoveries on steady rise

The Covid-19 recoveries are going up in India. With 35,176 persons cured and dehospital­ised till Tuesday morning, the recovery rate increased to 64.23% of the total infected as against 63.92% a day earlier. It has been above 63% since last one week.

A total of 9.53 lakh persons have recovered so far while 33,425 succumbed to the virus in the past five months, 644 in the past 24 hours, giving the death rate of 2.25%.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reported the highest tests of 5.28 lakh in 24 hours as against 5.15 lakh a day earlier. Altogether 1.73 crore persons have been tested for the virus

There are still 4.97 lakh persons under treatment across the country. They are a little more than one-third of those infected or 33.51% to be exact. As many as 47,708 were diagnosed with positive symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 14.83 lakh persons have been so far found infected since March.

Guj: 60 inmates test +ve in

Vadodara jail

At least 60 inmates of Vadodara Central Jail in Gujarat have tested positive for coronaviru­s infection in the last two days, an official said on Tuesday. The jail authoritie­s are in the process of setting up an 80-bed COVID-19 care centre inside the premises to ensure proper treatment for infected prisoners, the official said.

Jharkhand blames Bihar, Bengal for rising numbers

Jharkhand is witnessing an increase in the number of coronaviru­s cases due to neighbouri­ng states of Bihar and West Bengal, a senior officer said on Tuesday. Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni pointed out that 65% of the COVID-19 cases in Jharkhand had links either to Bihar or West Bengal.

UP crosses 20-lL tests mark Uttar Pradesh has become the second state after Tamil Nadu to cross the 20-lakh mark in terms of the number of samples tested for COVID19, officials said on Tuesday. It tested 91,830 samples for COVID-19 in past 24 hours, he said.
