TERRORISTS GUN DOWN TWO J&K COPS

A day ahead of the Independen­ce Day, Jaishe-Mohammad (JeM) militants killed two Jammu and Kashmir policemen and injured another in indiscrimi­nate firing in the Nowgam area of the city on Friday, police said.

After the attack, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said Pakistan and its proxies cannot tolerate the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.

A police spokespers­on said the militants fired indiscrimi­nately on a joint naka party of police and security forces at Gulshan Nagar area of Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar city this morning.

In the incident, 3 cops sustained grievous gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital. However, two injured, Fayaz Ahmad and

Ishfaq Ayoub of IRP 20th Battalion, succumbed, the spokespers­on said.

The third policeman is being treated at the hospital.

DNA samples of 'kin' of 3 killed in Shopian district collected

The DNA samples of the people, who claim to be the relatives of the three youths killed in an alleged fake encounter in Shopian district, were collected in a Jammu and Kashmir government hospital in presence of a police team sent from Srinagar, officials said Friday.

The three youths, Mohammad Imtiyaz and Ibrar Ahmed, residents of Kathuni mohalla of Dharsakri village of Rajouri, and Mohammad Ibrar, a resident of Tarkassi village of Rajouri, had left their homes on the pretext of working as labourers in Shopian and went out of contact with families on July 17. The officials said a total of six DNA samples were collected from the family of the 3 missing youths.

Arms seized in Baramulla

The Army recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Baramulla on Thursday. The search was launched in Trenarian in Dogi Pahad area of the north Kashmir district on Tuesday based on inputs about the presence of a cache of weapons and ammunition in the area, the Army spokespers­on said.

2 JeM aides arrested in Pulwama

Two militant associates belonging to proscribed outfit JeM were arrested from Pulwama and explosive material recovered from their possession, police said on Friday.
