CASES RISE, CURBS EASED
Coronavirus tests in India on Tuesday crossed the 10lakh mark for the third time, with 10,16,920 undergoing the tests to raise the total number of persons tested so far to 4.33 crore. The first time this mark was crossed on August 22 with 10,23,836.
The number of Covid-19 patients with positive symptoms neared 37 lakh as the latest tally is of 36,91,166, with as many as 71,997 found infected in the past 24 hours, while the death toll rose to 65,288 with 819 dying since Monday morning.
As many as 28,39,882 persons have recovered, increasing the recovery percentage to 26.63, with 65,081 cured and discharged in 24 hours, while 7.86 lakh are still in hospitals undergoing treatment, only 8,944 of them critical.
The number of deaths in
Maharashtra dipped to 296 from the previous day's 328, but Covid-19 continues to spread in the death fastest at 8,422. The only other state to have deaths in three digits in 24 hours is Karnataka with 106 fatalities.
Bars open, buses ply
As the Unlock 4 commenced on Tuesday, most of the states further eased the coronavirus-induced restrictions on the movement of people and functioning of commercial establishments like bars and hotels.
Many states have come out with their set of rules related to relaxations permitted outside the containment zones, though they were by and large following the Centre's August 29 guidelines on prohibiting activities of schools, colleges, cinema halls, etc till September 30. State-run buses were running again in Chennai.
