CBSE compartment exams by month-end, schedule released
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to conduct the compartment exams for the students of classes X and XII by the end of this month.
Opposing a petition to cancel the exams, the Board said it has already increased the exam centres to 1,278 and all precautions will be taken to conduct the compartment exams in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna asked the Board to file the exam schedule on an affidavit and posted the matter for hearing on September 10.
However, without waiting for the outcome of the case in the Supreme Court, the CBSE went ahead releasing on Friday the Compartment Date Sheet (September 2020) for classes X and XII. The compartment exams for both the classes will commence from September 22. With a break on Sunday, they will end on September 28 in case of Class X and until September 30 in case of Class XII.
Exams will be held from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, except for those on Hindustani music, painting and kathak dance from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Answer sheets will be distributed to candidates be
tween 10-10.15 am and question papers at 10.15 am, giving 15 minutes to the students to read them before writing the exam.
The court was hearing a plea by students placed in the compartment category, after
the CBSE declared the result for the said classes, based on an alternative evaluation method, in July this year. They contended when the main exams were not conducted, who will hold the compartment exams.
