Direction is more important than speed

—Grand Master Akshar

All of us here are cruising along on the freeway of life. We zip past each other by turns, slowing down when life throws speed breakers at us and, of course, encounter the occasional mishap and traffic snarl too. We may be focussed, positive and all charged up when we are on-the-go. These traits are certainly laudable. But, have we stopped to consider our destination. Where exactly are we heading? The direction is as important as speed, in fact even more so it would seem. This is an aspect we should seriously ponder about and work on.

When we are travelling, we have signposts at strategic locations that guide us through our journeys. If we are ever lost, we can simply stop and ask for help. But it is only to our advantage to be aware of both the route and destination before we head out. This way, even when we do request to be pointed in the right direction, the answer will determine our accuracy. Are we closer or farther away than we had imagined? Are we on track or off it? And, then we allow quiet reflection to give us the answers.

Without a working plan for our life in place, we face the danger of becoming hopelessly lost. A goal is our reference point, and our anchor. Planning our goals, the hows, whys and the wheres give us confidence, and a sense of purpose. We can begin each day with enthusiasm and end it evaluating our own progress. Our energy is the real currency of life, and the engine that keeps us moving forward. Therefore, we need to be directed to our actual goal to avoid losing energy. Concentrated efforts in the right direction is energy well-utilised and, this is the key to a life of fulfilment.
