Ex gratia for mishap victims

-

In the run up to the Assembly polls, both TMC and BJP are not leaving any stones unturned to woo voters. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the PMO announced ex-gratia to the families of those killed and injured in Tuesday's accident. The incident in the Jalpaiguri area of North Bengal claimed at least 14 lives and left several others seriously injured.

“From the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh rupees each would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the accident in West Bengal. Rs 50,000 would be given to each of those injured,” a tweet by the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Announcing the ex-gratia to the affected people and

family, Mamata Banerjee urged people to drive safely.

“Our Ministers and senior leaders have reached the site of the accident. I would urge people to drive carefully when there is fog and low visibility. Rupees 2.5 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased, Ra 50,000 to those

who are seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to those who have sustained minor injuries,” added the TMC Supremo.

According to a police officer the collision between the cars and a truck took place mostly due to the dense fog.

According to poll analysts, both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP are trying to woo voters ahead of the polls by immediately announcing ex-gratia amounts. 13 killed in Surat accident cremated in Rajasthan Thirteen people run over by a truck while they were asleep by the side of a road in Gujarat's Surat district were cremated in Rajasthan's Banswara on Wednesday.
