Kerala pay for missed chances Manchester City on top of EPL

- /

Kerala Blasters were made to rue their missed chances as they played out a goalless draw with Jamshedpur FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim on Wednesday.

Kerala were, by far, the superior team overall and created more chances than Jamshedpur but lacked the cutting edge in the final third, which denied them their fourth win of the season.

The first half proved to be a pulsating affair but attackers of both sides were guilty of missing chances.

Jamshedpur dominated the opening quarter and had the opportunity to take the lead early on, following a blunder from Kerala keeper Albino Gomes.

Manchester City swept aside West Bromwich Albion 5-0 in impressive style to become a record ninth different overnight leader of the Premier League this season, at the The Hawthorns, West Bromwich on Tuesday.

Phil Foden had a shot tipped on to the post by goalkeeper Sam Johnstone before Ilkay Gundogan scored for the third successive match to put them ahead.

Joao Cancelo doubled the lead with a curling strike before Gundogan scored his second of the match.

Riyad Mahrez made it four on the stroke of half-time with a fierce shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area.

City have 41 points, one ahead of Manchester United,

while West Brom stay 19th on 11 points, six adrift of 17thplaced Brighton.

Make it seven straight wins in the league, and 11 in all competitions, for City in an ominous run of results. City became the ninth side to finish a day in first place this season, the most within a single top-flight campaign since 1986-87.

Another central midfielder in scoring form is Tomas Soucek, who netted twice for West Ham in its 3-2 win at Crystal Palace that lifted the team to fourth place.

Arsenal avenged a defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup at the weekend by beating the Saints 3-1 in the league.

The win moved Mikel Arteta's side above Southampton and up to eighth in the standings. Newcastle's winless run extended to 11 games in all competitions with a 2-1 home defeat to Leeds, piling the pressure on manager Steve Bruce.
