WORLD’S SECOND LARGEST hospital to come up in Patna
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday announced all citizens of Bihar would be vaccinated against Corona for free. He said the state outnumbered others in the Covid-19 vaccination and in the first two phases, warriors responded well.
At a function to lay the foundation of the world’s second largest hospital in Patna Medical College Hospital premises here, Nitish said from next month on, over 27 crores people in the age group of 50 plus would be vaccinated.
The proposed redeveloped PMCH withe 5,500 beds will be second to 10,000-bed facility in Chang Gung memorial hospital in Taoyuan, China. The redeveloped hospital will be constructed on the premises of the PMCH set up in 1921 and then known as Prince of Wales Medical College Hospital. Nitish said the new hospital will have helipad for the landing and take off of air ambulance. It will be linked to the Ashok Rajpath and Ganga Oathaway through elevated roads.
The proposed hospital will have 360 studio apartments for patients and attendants. For the economically-weaker patients and attendants, a 715room dharmashala and 60 modular operation theatres will be built. It will have a capacity to park 4,000 vehicles.

The PMCH Alumni Association has opposed the demolition of the century-old building, saying all historical institutions must be preserved as heritage structures for generations to come.
The iconic and old heritage building are now proposed to be dismantled as part of redevelopment plan for the new hospital complex.
