RAKESH TIKAIT CALLS FOR ‘HAL KRANTI’, PARLIAMENT GHERAO

- SRAWAN SHUKLA / Lucknow

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait called for a ‘hal kranti’ and warned the Modi government that the farmers would gherao Parliament with 40 lakh tractors if it did not replace the three contentious farm laws with a new one to ensure the Minimum Support Price. The BKU on Wednesday organised a Kisan Mahapanchayat at Kirawali mini stadium of Mauni Baba Ashram in Agra. The area is home to BJP MP and BJP Kisan Morcha national president Rajkumar Chahar

Addressing a sizeable gathering of farmers, Tikait said time has come to fight a final battle with the BJP government. “This time we will not march to Lal Quila but to Parliament and not with 4,000 tractors but with 40 lakh tractors to show farmers’ strength to the government,” he warned.

Meanwhile, calling Defence Minister Rajnath Singh a ‘caged parrot’ in the Modi government, BKU president Naresh Tikait said issues of farmers will be resolved in a minute if he (read Rajnath) is given a free hand.

After taking western Uttar Pradesh by storm, the farmers' agitation reached central and eastern UP on Wednesday when BKU held a Kisan Mahapanchayat at Barabanki, just 40 kms away from state capital Lucknow.

“I guarantee you, the impasse would end in a minute if Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is given a free hand to hold talks with us. But this government is stubborn. It has made him a caged parrot. The government should change its attitude and listen to the voices of agitating farmers and repeal the farm laws,” Tikait said.
