Stalwart Ganjam Venkatasub­biah dies BRO upgrades Leh-Sarchu Road bridge IAF Chief Bhadauria leaves for France

Doyen of Kannada language and lexicograp­her Ganjam Venkatasub­biah, popularly known as GV, passed away in the wee hours of Monday morning due to age-related ailments, a close family member said here. GV was 107 years old and was suffering from renal problems for the past few days and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.GV was a Kannada writer, grammarian, editor, lexicograp­her and critic who has compiled over eight dictionari­es, authored four seminal works on dictionar y science in Kannada, edited over 60 books and published several papers.

LEH (LADAKH): Border Roads Organisati­on (BRO) has in a record eight days upgraded a crucial 110-feet long bridge on Leh-Sarchu Road connecting the cold desert with Manali for smooth movement of heavy convoys of the army and civilian vehicles. BRO officials said that the crucial Bailey bridge on Whiskey Nallah on the Leh-Sarchu road had deteriorat­ed due to heavy snowfall in winters. The BRO officials said that the upgradatio­n of this crucial bridge well before the onset of summer will ensure hurdle-free movement of heavy vehicles carrying essential supplies and bring cheer to the people of Ladakh.

NEW DELHI: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on Monday lef t for France, a visit billed as a "significan­t step" in further enhancing mutual cooperatio­n. "The visit of Chief of Air Staff (CAS) from April 19-23 will enhance potential avenues for strengthen­ing the level of interactio­n between the two Air Forces," the Indian Air Force said. Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria is scheduled to hold talks with the senior militar y leadership of France and visit several operationa­l facilities and air bases.
