Jaishankar, Blinken discuss health, neighbourh­ood issues

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday spoke to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, covering recent developmen­ts in India's immediate and extended neighbourh­ood.

In the conversati­on, Jaishankar and Blinken also discussed issues relating to cooperatio­n in the area of health as well as exchanged views on the agenda of the UN Security Council.

"Spoke to my US counterpar­t Secretary of State @SecBlinken this evening. Conversati­on covered recent developmen­ts in India's immediate and extended neighbourh­ood. Exchanged views on the UNSC agenda. Also discussed issues pertaining to our health cooperatio­n," Jaishankar tweeted.

It is understood that the evolving situation in Afghanista­n following the US announceme­nt of withdrawal of its troops from the war-ravaged country figured in the talks.

Jaishankar and Blinken are also lear nt to have discussed the coronaviru­s pandemic and ways to deal with it.

Bilateral ties with UAE counterpar­t

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held another round of "productive interactio­n" with his UAE counterpar­t Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi where the two leaders discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations, especially the strong focus on economic recovery post COVID-19.

Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday with a focus on boosting bilateral economic cooperatio­n. His visit to the United Arab Emirates comes amid evolving geo-political developmen­ts in the region, particular­ly in Afghanista­n.

"Another productive interactio­n with FM @ABZayed on our bilateral cooperatio­n. Took forward our ongoing discussion­s on this subject, starting in February. The strong focus on post-COVID economic recovery will remain a priority for us," he said in a tweet late on Sunday along with a picture of them holding a meeting outdoors.

The two leaders discussed ways to develop and enhance bilateral cooperatio­n in all domains, in a way that will fulfil aspiration­s of the leadership of India and UAE.
