Victims’ kin create ruckus Only 152 O2 beds in Ahmedabad Raj CM’s wife tests positive

JAIPUR: Four COVID-19 patients died at a private hospital here following which their family members created ruckus at the facility alleging there was no staff to change oxygen cylinders, police said on Wednesday. Station House Officer of Kalwar police station, Gurudutt Saini, said oxygen was available but no staff was available to replace the cylinders at the hospital. "Four COVID patients died at the hospital on Tuesday night. Their family members gathered and alleged that that there was no staff to change oxygen cylinders which led to the deaths," he said.

AHMEDABAD: With only 152 oxygen beds available at hospitals, the civic body in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city has appealed to citizens to avoid stepping out of their homes unless absolutely necessar y, an official said on Wednesday. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporatio­n (AMC) had doubled the overall bed capacity at hospitals in a month and half, and added more than 2,000 oxygen beds in the last 15 days alone. In a release issued on Tuesday night, the civic body said only 152 critical care (oxygen + ICU) beds are now available with city hospitals, which are also getting filled fast. With the number of coronaviru­s cases increasing in the city by the day, hospitals are flooded with patients.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said that his wife has tested positive for Covid-19. The CM said in a tweet that his wife Sunita is Covid positive and as per protocol, she is isolating and taking treatment. Gehlot said he too has isolated himself as a precaution­ar y measure and will continue to take the daily Covid-19 review meetings with health department officials. Meanwhile, the state continues to reel under shortage of medical oxygen, ICU beds and medicines. On Wednesday, the state recorded 16,613 positive cases and 120 deaths. The cumulative positive cases have gone up to 5,63,577 while the total deaths are 3926. —FPJ Correspond­ent
