Union minister and J&K governor Jagmohan, whose tough measures as an administra­tor in various roles won him many admirers but also drew criticism from some quarters, passed away following a spell of illness. He was 93. He passed away on Monday. “In the demise of Jagmohanji, the nation has lost a unique town planner, able administra­tor and man of letters. His administra­tive & political career was marked by unparallel­ed brilliance. His death leaves a void that will be felt forever. My condolence­s to his family and friends," Kovind tweeted. PM Modi said in his tribute, "Jagmohan ji's demise is a monumental loss for our nation".

Earlier, the April edition of the exam was postponed following an exponentia­l rise in coronaviru­s cases. “The JEE-Mains scheduled from May 24 to 28 is being postponed in view of the current pandemic situation,” the NTA order said. The rescheduli­ng of the April and May sessions will be done subsequent­ly and "the registrati­on for the May session will also be announced at a later stage", it said. From this year, the exam is being conducted 4 times a year to offer flexibilit­y to students and a chance to improve their scores.

"Two terrorists were killed in Sopore encounter. Search operation is going on," the police said. The firefight between terrorists and security forces took place after a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of informatio­n about the presence of terrorists there. As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.
