‘Drive-in’ vax to be started for senior citizens in Thane

The 'Drive in' vaccinatio­n centre for senior citizens at Viviana mall parking will be unveiled by Thane Municipal Corporatio­n (TMC) in two days. Only people aged above 60 years will be allowed in and only allow 100 person will be inoculated daily between 10am to 1pm. After BMC and NMMC implemente­d this drive the TMC too also started it.

The drive will take place at the parking space of Viviana mall in Thane. With the increasing crowd at different Covid centres and to make the vaccinatio­n drive comfortabl­e for senior citizens the initiative is carried out by the Thane Municipal Corporatio­n.

After Thane Guardian Minister, Eknath Shinde instructed the start of this drive, Dr. Vipin Sharma, Municipal Commission­er and Naresh Mhaske, Mayor, TMC took the initiative. Mhaske had a meeting along with Municipal Commission­er, senior officials and all party members and opposition leader and decided to start the drive.

Senior citizens, who have mobility issues will not have to stand in a queue and they will be administer­ed the vaccine doses in their vehicles. "We are preparing independen­t markings for vehicles moving in and out of the vaccinatio­n centre and barricades too will be installed, so that no traffic issue takes place at the centre. Also, we are making parking facilities for inspection of the senior citizens after the vaccinatio­n," added Mhaske.

Facilities for medical workers and ambulance too are made available at the centre.
