Belgium's soccer players selected for the European Championsh­ip will get vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of the tournament, the government said Wednesday. Belgium, the top-ranked FIFA team, is among the favorites for the tournament, which opens on June 11.

Archer's injury worries England: Hussain

LONDON: Former England captain Nasser Hussain said that fast bowler Jofra Archer's constant struggle with injur y is a worry for the team. Hussain said that England will want a fit Archer for the T20 World Cup and the Ashes set to be played later in the year. "It's hugely worrying for any cricketer. You don't want a recurring nature of an injur y, especially a bowler and especially this lad. He is such a rare talent, an absolute gem. Even in the cricket we did see at Sussex last week, the ball he got (Zak) Crawley out with was phenomenal," Hussain said on Sky Sports.

CA to rest to Warner, Cummins: Report

SYDNEY: Cricket Australia (CA) is discussing plans on giving rest to David Warner and Pat Cummins for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies for family reasons. If both players are indeed given rest for the tour, then it might take the edge off the discontent some players feel towards Warner that has been stirred up by Cameron Bancrof t's comments on Sandpaper Gate, reported Sydney Morning Herald.

Norris signs multiyear with McLaren

WOKING (UK): Lando Norris signed a multiyear contract extension with McLaren on Wednesday that will keep the 21year-old driver with the Formula One team for the immediate future. The British driver earned the second podium finish of his career at this season's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and is fourth in the drivers' standings ahead of this weekend's Monaco GP.

Bayer Leverkusen hires Seoane as coach

LEVERKUSEN (Germany): Bayer Leverkusen hired Gerardo Seoane on Wednesday to be its coach starting next season. Seoane, who won a third straight Swiss league title with Young Boys, signed a three-year contract. He replaces interim coach Hannes Wolf, who heads back to his previous role as coach of the German national under-19 team.

EU votes to take down illegal streaming

BRUSSELS: European legislator­s adopted a proposal Wednesday to combat online piracy of live sporting events that includes the option to block illegal broadcasts within half an hour. EU lawmakers also called on the European Commission — the EU's executive branch — to amend the legislatio­n on intellectu­al property rights for live sporting events, which are not protected by the bloc's copyright rules.

Lampard inducted into PL's Hall of Fame

LONDON: Frank Lampard is the latest former player to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. The three-time Premier League champion scored 177 goals during his time at West Ham United, Chelsea and Manchester City, the most by any midfielder in the competitio­n's histor y. Lampard joins Alan Shearer, Thierr y Henry, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane as an inductee, receiving the league's highest individual honour. He is one of the six players of a 23-man shortlist to receive the most combined votes from the public and the Premier League panel.

BCCI match referee Mohapatra dead

BHUBANESWA­R: Former Odisha cricket captain and match referee Prasanta Mohapatra died on Wednesday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Bhubaneswa­r) here. He was 47. Mohapatra's death comes a couple of days af ter another Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) match referee Rajendra Jadeja, also a former Saurashtra Ranji team captain, succumbed to Covid-19 at 65.
