Severe restrictio­ns in TN for a week beginning Monday

All shops including grocery stores and provision stores will be closed in Tamil Nadu for a week from Monday as the State will face an intense lockdown of unpreceden­ted proportion.

With the daily Covid cases averaging around 35,000, Chief Minister MK Stalin heeded to the recommenda­tion of a medical experts team and announced the lockdown that will see only medical shops, milk supply and water supply and fuel stations and LPG delivery allowed.

Before the clampdown, the Government allowed shops to remain open till Sunday night and also resumed transport services to help people head to their hometowns before Monday. The Government has announced that it would sell vegetables and fruits through mobile vending through the Horticultu­re and Agricultur­e Marketing department­s in coordinati­on with local bodies.

Travel will be permitted only for medical emergencie­s and funerals. However, movement of agricultur­al products and essential commoditie­s would go on as usual. Food delivery and e-commerce services would be allowed with restrictio­n in timings. Restaurant­s can only offer takeaways. The Government has allowed banks to function with one-third staff.

Only select industries and in-situ constructi­ons would be permitted.

'Curfew' extended in J-K The Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion on Saturday extended till May 31 the curfew imposed across the union territory to curb the spread of coronaviru­s. The restrictio­ns were scheduled to end on May 24.

Telangana lockdown

To curb Covid spread, Telangana police have intensifie­d measures to enforce lockdown across the state.

Meanwhile, Mizoram government extended lockdown in Aizawl and other district headquarte­rs by 7 days.

Partial coronaviru­s curfew in Uttar Pradesh was also extended till May 31.
