‘Covid cases among city’s kids increase’

The court, however, notes that overall situation in control

The Bombay High Court bench of Justices Amjad Sayed and Girish Kulkarni on Friday noted that there has been a rise in Covid-19 cases among children in the city. The HC, however, noted that the overall situation is somewhat in control.

When the matter was called out for hearing on Thursday morning, wherein, advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni told the bench that the situation of Covid is quite under control.

"Remdesivir crisis is under control now. Now there is adequate supply of the injections. People aren't running from pillar to post now," AG submitted.

Further, senior counsel Anil Sakhare for BMC told the bench that there are ample number of vacant beds (both oxygen and ventilators). He said that at present there are over 28,000 active cases.

"The figures show that the situation is much under control now," Justice Sayed said while noting the figures.

Further, the bench sought data on the Covid cases among children.

The data submitted showed that as on Wednesday there are around 12,052 cases.

"Last time your (BMC) data said there were 11,000 cases. Today there are 12,052 cases. This means the cases are rising among children," Justice Kulkarni noted.

The BMC counsel, however, submitted that efforts are being taken to contain the virus. "Special facilities are being arranged for children at Nesco Centre. There are also arrangements being made for parents of the children to stay in these centers," Sakhare added. The bench adjourned the hearing till June 2.
