Maharashtra Government has issued notification on implementation of the ambitious apprentice promotion scheme. “During the current year, one lakh youths will get apprenticeship opportunities in various industries and establishments. Along with training they will get employment. The Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (MAPS) aims to provide employment and training to 5 lakh educated unemployed youths in the next five years,” said Nawab Malik, Minister of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship.
Malik said the government has worked out this scheme to provide jobs and training to the youths during the present coronavirus pandemic and address the issue of rising unemployment. “Under this scheme, the trainees will be entitled to get 75 per cent of the scholarship payable to them or a maximum of Rs 5,000 whichever is less,” he added. He informed that the government on Thursday has issued a notification.
“The apprenticeship scheme will be implemented in 715 businesses. “Outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has led to a sharp rise in unemployment. In such a situation, the government aims to provide jobs to youths. The apprenticeship is being implemented to provide employment and selfemployment opportunities and experience to the youth who have passed at least 10th standard in the state,” said Malik.
The minister argued that the need of the hour is to create skilled manpower required by the industry as well as to train the youth of the state and make them employable.
