CM takes stock of floods across city
Amid BJP’s criticism over water logging in many parts of Mumbai, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday asked the administration to ensure that the accumulated water is drained out at the earliest to ensure smooth flow of traffic. In view of the weather bureau’s projection of medium to heavy rains till June 12, Thackeray chaired the meeting of senior bureaucrats and disaster management cell to review the monsoon preparedness.
He also spoke to control rooms in the city and collectors of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar districts as incessant rains led to the inundation of several areas, affecting normal life.
Thackeray visited the BMC’s disaster management cell and took stock of the situation. He directed civic chief Iqbal Chahal to take all possible steps to drain out the water. He also asked the BMC to coordinate with the police for the resumption of traffic.
According to the chief minister’s office, Thackeray had chaired a meeting of the disaster management authority and directed them to be prepared to tackle any eventuality given the prediction of heavy rains. He also asked the administration to take steps so that residents are not inconvenienced.
He insisted that the administration should start relief works immediately wherever needed.
Thackeray instructed the BMC that treatment to Covid patients at the centres and treatment of other patients must not be impacted due to the rains.
