Indians to be recruited in Portugal

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of an agreement on the recruitmen­t of Indian citizens to work in the Portuguese Republic between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Republic of Portugal. The present agreement would set an institutio­nal mechanism for partnershi­p and cooperatio­n between India and Portugal on sending and accepting Indian workers.

Under this agreement, a joint committee will be set up to follow up the implementa­tion of the same. Signing this agreement with Portugal will add a new destinatio­n for Indian migrant workers in an EU member nation, especially in the context of many Indian workers who have returned to India following the pandemic. It will provide new opportunit­ies for skilled Indian workers and profession­als. Former BJP block prez building AAP base in Cortalim

VASCO: Having left the BJP to join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former Cortalim BJP block president Joel Fernandes has said he is strengthen­ing the party’s base in Cortalim constituen­cy and hopes to contest assembly elections on the AAP ticket.

While he was in BJP, Fernandes was director in GTDC and held positions in some other department­s, besides being appointed as trustee at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).

Fernandes, however, resigned from all positions after difference­s of opinion with the BJP over the linear projects and coal handling at MPT and quit the party to join the AAP. He had previous served as convenor in the movement against Metastrips, when it was setting an industrial unit in CortalimSa­ncoale. "I formally joined the AAP party around two months ago and I plan to contest assembly elections from Cortalim on the AAP ticket.
