POST-POLL VIOLENCE: CBI arrests 11, including 4 BJP cadres
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) early on Sunday arrested four BJP workers in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress worker Shahinoor Ahmed at Tufanganj in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
Notably, this is the first arrest of any BJP worker after the Calcutta High Court on August 19 ordered the CBI to probe the post-poll violence. A total of 11 persons were arrested by the CBI on Sunday.
The session court at Tufanganj has sentenced 14-day judicial custody to the four accused persons.
According to sources, the CBI prayed for police custody of the accused persons, but it could not produce a case diary substantiating the prayer. Notably, on May 4, Ahmed’s body was near a bush at Kilakhana area in Tufanganj.
