Thakur flags off Ultimate Ladakh Cycling
LEH: Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday flagged off the second edition of Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Challenge here. Organised by Ladakh police in coordination with Cycling Federation of India, the cycle challenge is part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav' and 'Fit India Movement'. The minister said that the motivation behind Fit India Movement, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to invigorate fitness consciousness among the people of India.
Shirgaonkar elected secretary MOA
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Olympic Association has appointed Namdev Shirgaonkar as its Secretary General. His appointment came at the back of an unopposed election. Shirgaonkar previously held the position of Vice President at the Maharashtra Olympic Association. Other new senior position electrets in the Maharashtra Olympic Association are Ajit Pawar, Balasaheb Landge, Ashok Pandit, Pradip Gandhe, Jay Kowli and Sanjay Shete.
Jr NatL Softball in Phagwara from Sep 26-30
PHAGWARA: The 38th Junior National Softball Championship for boys and girls will be held in Phagwara from September 2630 at the Lovely Professional University Campus. Talking about the tournament, the President of Softball Association of India Neetal Narang thanked the sports ministry for giving extension to hold the pending Nationals till September 2021. She also spoke about the potential of softball as a game in the country.
Woods text helps inspire US team in Ryder Cup
SHEBOGYAN: Tiger Woods isn't at Whistling Straits, but several US players say he helped inspire them to a big lead in the first day of the Ryder Cup. Woods sent a group text through captain Steve Stricker to American players, saying he was behind them in their battle to regain the cup. "The gist of basically what he said was I'm cheering you guys on, I'm right there with you and go fight and make us proud," Tony Finau said.
Three tied for lead after 1st round of LPGA
ROGERS: A Lim Kim, Katherine Kirk and Eun-HI Ji each shot 8under 63 for a one-shot lead over Sarah Burnham after the first round of the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship. Five others, Nasa Hataoka, Lindsey Weaver, Pajaree Anannarukarn, Aditi Ashok and Klara Spilkova, were another stroke back after 6-under 65s at Pinnacle Country Club here on Friday.
