State CID takes over third case related to Param Bir Singh

The state home department has transferred another case registered against former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh to the state Crime Investigation Department. This is the third case related to Singh that has been transferred to the CID.

According to the state government sources, on Friday, the extortion case registered by the Kopri police station (Thane) against Singh, a DCP rank officer, three officers of Kopri police station, a builder, a businessman and another person was transferred to the CID for further probe.A businessman had lodged the FIR in July with the Kopri police, alleging that between November 2016 and May 2018, Singh, who was then the Commissioner of Police (Thane) and others, in connivance with each other, had initially ‘extorted’ Rs 2 crore from him.

Earlier, police inspector Bhimrao Ghadge’s FIR registered at Thane and builder Shyam Sunder Agarwal’s case registered at Marine Drive police stations, respectively, were transferred to the state CID. Total five FIRs have been registered, in which Singh is also named as an accused person.

Apart from this, Singh is also facing two open enquiries from the Anti-Corruption Bureau. One inquiry is based on the complaint filed by inspector Bhimrao Ghadge, in which he had accused Singh of corruption and taking money for postings of senior inspectors. Ghadge's statement was recorded by ACB officials last week.

The ACB is conducting a separate inquiry against Singh on the complaint of inspector Anup Dange, who had alleged that Singh had demanded money for reinstating him through a relative when he was under suspension.
