NEW DELHI: The National Women's Boxing Championship will be held in Hisar, Haryana from October 21 to 27 and performances of the pugilists will be taken into account while selecting the squad for the world championships in December. The event will be staged at St Joseph's International School in Hisar.

SAI draws up fresh list of TOPS group

NEW DELHI: A new core group of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for the next Olympic cycle will be drawn up from among the country's elite athletes after the earlier one was dissolved at the end of Tokyo Games, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said on Wednesday. India achieved unprecedented success in the Tokyo Games this year by winning seven medals, including a historic gold in athletics, mainly due to the funding and support of the athletes under TOPS which was established in 2014.

India will take on Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. The India-France match saw Kulkarni get the better of Natacha Benmesbah in a 51-move encounter while Woman Grandmaster Gomes defeated IM Silvia Alexieva, also in 51 moves. GM D Harika, the top Indian player, shared honours with Marie Sebag in a 45-move game while Tania Sachdev drew with Andreea Navrotescu in 34 moves.
